I’ve been on a mission this summer to draw more buildings and reacquaint myself with the finer points of perspective. Ideally this should happen on location, but reference photos are always good to have, too.
There is a definite preference by some folks for the Altbau (or the old, traditional style of building). But an accurate portrait of Berlin must include this newer style—and to be honest, I find myself drawn to these buildings (and the little worlds happening on the balconies).
These photos were taken in both Kreuzberg and Wedding and I would guess the buildings were built in the 1980s, making them possibly part of the IBA, but I’m not sure. If anybody knows, I’d love to hear about it!
You can see more buildings like this in our short film about green spaces in Berlin.
