Over the weekend I went to the East Side Freedom Library in St Paul to hear a talk by Bill Lindeke about the history of Minneapolis and St Paul dive bars. He’s been collecting stories about these establishments before they disappear (and also after the fact) as a way of chronicling a kind of cultural history that flies under the radar and that wouldn’t make it into the average history book. Above: my notes from the evening.
Also loved the location, the East Side Freedom Library. Originally a Carnegie library, it’s now owned by a non-profit and hosts community events and archives.
