Mullet Mall

Albuquerque, New Mexico
This is an outdoor mall in Albuquerque called “ABQ Uptown.” It is supposed to replicate the feeling of shopping on Main Street and is the mullet of shopping malls; street parking in front, parking lots in the back. But the most baffling feature is the piped in music, emanating from the stone encrusted light poles, loud enough to make a shopper want to run for the Sandias.
I thought that this was hilarious. But this is meant for serious. And seriously, how does this become a reality? The people who design these places try to create Place and a sense of place. They look at what already exists and try to reinterpret it with such clunky and funny results.
