We don’t have a balcony in our Berlin flat—much less a backyard—so picnics have shifted from romantic, once-per-summer events to practical, regular affairs. I love it that a good picnic system requires simplicity…and often involves specialty cases. Some of our favorite picnic supplies:
1) No complicated salads or food prep—cheese, bread, and olives are our speed. 2) A little inspiration: desert picnickers. 3) The waterproof picnic blanket is one of the year’s best purchases. 4) If you’re picnicking in Mauerpark, then surely someone is blasting techno loud enough for you and the whole neighborhood to hear from jumbo speakers on wheels. Otherwise a little radio is nice. 5) Who can bring the badminton to the party? We can. Sadly our set isn’t glow in the dark. I see a DIY in there… 6) Pocket knife. Anthony’s knife has a squirrel on it, which is one of the first things that endeared him to me. 7) Hopefully you are enjoying your open air feast in a location where the sun actually shines and requires eye-protection. 8) Duluth Pack’s Camp Kitchen Pack for carting all of the essentials in an orderly fashion. 9) When things get late and dusky, a candle is always cozy. 10) We haven’t quite graduated to grill picnics, but when we do the City Boy Picnic Grill is what I’m thinking.
