Over the weekend we had dinner with some friends from Berlin who are making their way up the Pacific Coast. Their next move was to take the train from Portland to Seattle. We got to talking about train travel in the United States and how long it takes—several days from Minneapolis to Seattle as I remember from a long-ago journey.
When I first saw these maps a few weeks ago (they measure travel time from New York westward), my first thought was ‘wow, such a long journey.’ But after this weekend’s conversation…yikes, not too much progress.
