    I took back roads to Austin, MN last week and real I took back roads to Austin, MN last week and realized I was inadvertently heading thru Dodge Center, where my grandma’s parents had a cafe in the 30s. It’s part of my #hazel1921 project and I’d been guessing at what the actual building had looked like. All I had to reference on my phone was the second photo so not much, but I think it could have been that building with the white exterior.

My fearless adventure companion who joined me in every best moment over the last 16 years and stayed next to me during the toughest times, of which there were too many. I was so lucky to have this guy and so honored to see him through his old age—he just got sweeter and sweeter. I have never known such heartbreak. I miss you so much my friend.

Through my research using newspapers from the day and stories from the journal, I’ve gotten to know the town pretty well.
